Saturday, September 27: Flu Shot Clinic + Safe Disposal of Unused Medication

There will be a free flu shot clinic on Saturday (9/27) from 12pm - 3pm at 809 E. 42nd Place (Prince Hall Grand Lodge). For more information call the 4th Ward Service Office at (773) 536-8103.

Also, from 10am - 2pm on Saturday (9/27) you can turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal at the 2nd District Police Office at 5105 S. Wentworth Avenue.

Chicago Board of Education seeks honorary student member

Applications are now available to become an honorary student board member of the Chicago Board of Education for the 2014-2015 school year. The student attends the monthly board meetings and also becomes a member of CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett's Student Advisory Council. Upon graduation the student will receive a $1000 scholarship toward a 2-year or 4-year college program in which he/she is enrolled.

September Meeting Date Changed to September 30

Due to the conflict with Rosh Hashanah, our September CAC meeting has been moved from Wednesday, the 24th to Tuesday, September 30. The meeting will be held at 6pm at King High School, 4445 S. Drexel. There will be a tour of the building at 5:30pm.

Neighborhood Events

The Hyde Park Art Center is hosting a block party on Saturday, September 13 from 12-9pm. 

After-school programming at Hyde Park Neighborhood Club has been extended to 6:30pm.

Patricia Breckenridge has opened the Intergenerational Reading Clinic at United Church of Hyde Park.

Books are currently being collected in the lower level of Treasure Island for the annual book sale held by Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference.

Latest news on Dyett High School: Teska Associates Report, HPKCAC statement of support, and 9/13 Retreat

Teska Associates, Inc. has published its report on the July 28 public meeting about the future of Dyett High School. You can read the report here.

At the August 27 CAC meeting, the Hyde Park/Kenwood CAC approved the following motion:

We support the alderman’s efforts to keep Dyett open as an open-enrollment school and we support many features in the current proposal from the Coalition to Revitalize Dyett.

This Saturday, September 13, from 10am-2pm, the Coalition to Revitalize Dyett High School is holding an implementation retreat at Mollison Elementary (4415 S. King Drive). Breakfast and lunch will be served. See this flyer for details.

Changes to CPS Student Code of Conduct

At our August 27 meeting Justina Schlund gave an overview of changes that CPS has made to the student code of conduct in an effort to reduce suspensions. Her handout can be found here.

This Family FactSheet provides an overview for parents and lists telephone numbers of the Network offices in the event that parents feel their child has been disciplined unfairly at school.
